Avoid fatty meat and an excess of animal fats and eggs. Go for vegetable fats instead, they don’t contain cholesterol and taste great.
Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (preferably 5 times a day). Think also of the so-called “hidden” fats in cheese, sausage and cake.
If you exercise only once a week for half an hour, you are doing a lot for your cardiovascular system. You will achieve a positive effect also, if you go upstairs instead of taking the lift. And last but not least, you are not only doing the environment a favour by leaving your car parked from time to time and walking smaller distances.
A little sin from time to time – that’s perfectly all right. It only becomes problematic when the exception becomes the rule and fat, sweets or alcohol are part of the daily nutrition intake. So enjoy your food consciously but without a guilty conscience.
Smoking is particularly harmful to your blood vessels, because nicotine and other substances in cigarette smoke constrict the blood vessels even further. When blood flow is made worse the body is no longer optimally supplied with nutrients.
Being owerweight is one of the main causes of cardiovascular disease. Therefore, try to reduce your weight with a balanced and sensible diet. Avoid zero diets and one-sided diets, it’s best to talk to your Doctor before you go on a diet.
Stress and psychological strain can also cause heart problems. Try to relax and switch off more often. Sport and exercise can help. But relaxation techniques such as autogenic training or yoga can also help you to become calmer and more relaxed.
